I started this drama with only pure anticipation for the chemistry between the leads after only seeing the trailer. But exceeding my expectations, I grew emotionally attached with the story of Crown Prince Yi San, portrayed by 2PM Member and Actor, Lee Junho and Court lady Sung Deok Im, portrayed by Actress Lee Seyoung.
After completing the drama I wish that many more people must come across this story. Hence here I am, listing a few reasons on why you should also indulge yourself in this historical gem, the k-drama “The Red Sleeve Cuff”.
Firstly this drama depicts the real-life story of 22nd king Jeongjo and his concubine Ubin, set in the 18th century.
Many people think that this drama is just a melancholic love story but I had a very different perception of this matter. “The Red Sleeve Cuff” also showcases the harsh reality of Court ladies in the Royal Court, of their struggles, and their importance in the Court. In this story, one of the Court lady Song Deok Im, liked by Crown Prince Yi San, despite being a court lady wanted to live her whole life of her own will together with her three best friends until their last breath. However, unlike her wishes, she too fell for the Crown Prince deeply and gave up her freedom, and eventually, things took a bitter turn for the two love birds in the end.
This drama, through its bewitching cinematography, takes you back to that historical time period and the melodramatic music perfectly matches the mood of the story.
This overall is a great historical drama that made my heart grow joyful, sad, gloomy and scared with its turns and twists and at last, coming to the realization that this really happened long back ago will leave your heart shuddering.
I hope all of you will also take a look at this beautiful yet sad story. The acting by the whole cast is to the point and the chemistry between the two leads has garnered huge attention from fans worldwide.
